Biomass pellet

A biomass pellet is agricultural or woody residue dried, ground and compressed into a uniform cylinder. Pelleting makes bulky loose residue dense enough to transport economically and consistent enough for a power plant to burn alongside coal.

The value added is uniformity. A plant can set its equipment once for a fuel of known size, moisture and energy content.

For a restoration site it turns the material cut from fast growing rows into a product with a standing buyer.
