Agroforestry

Agroforestry is growing trees and crops on the same land deliberately, rather than separating them. The trees hold soil, lift water and provide shade and carbon. The crops provide income while the trees are too young to give any.

Its advantage over pure plantation is cash flow. A block that earns nothing for a decade needs somebody willing to fund a decade.

It asks more of whoever runs it, because it needs both forestry and cropping knowledge on the same block.
