Battery storage
Battery storage holds generated electricity and releases it later. On a renewable site it turns output that arrives when the sun and wind decide into supply that arrives when the buyer needs it, which is what makes the output contractable.
It is not primarily about backup. It is about shifting energy by hours so that a variable source can meet a firm commitment.
Sizing follows the load the buyer needs covered, which is what keeps the cost proportionate to the benefit.
